Who we are
We're group of maths PhD students in London aiming to give local students a taste of University-style mathematics, in a relaxed and friendly environment. We run short courses each half-term on various topics, with a focus on interactivity and exploration. Our courses are designed to be accessible to interested students from Year 1o up to Year 13 and are free of charge. If you've ever wondered what mathematicians do all day, or what a future in mathematics might look like, then consider applying: all you need to attend one of our courses is curiosity and an open mind!
Our mission
LMO believes that mathematics is a beautiful subject with which everyone can have an empowering and rewarding relationship. We also believe that, in light of the fact that mathematical ability is distributed evenly across economic and demographic boundaries, it is the responsibility of the current generation of mathematicians to particularly encourage students from underrepresented backgrounds to explore the subject fully. These things granted; our missions are:
1. To open the eyes of all school students to the beauty and variety offered by mathematics beyond the standard curriculum.
2. To support underrepresented students, particularly in terms of gender identity and socio-economic background, in discovering their mathematical passions.
3. To provide a safe and welcoming space for the practising and discussion of mathematics.
Heavily inspired by F. Ardila’s Axioms.
