No. The courses will cover topics that are typically disjoint from the national curriculum, in a relaxed and fun setting. Attendance will of course help students develop their mathematical abilities, but will typically not learn anything that is directly relevant to what they cover at school.
We accept sign-ups from any student currently in years 10 – 13 and do not select based on academic ability or previous exposure to extra/intra-curricular maths. Please note that, in line with our mission statement, we do look preferentially on sign-ups from students at comprehensive schools and from mathematically underrepresented genders, and we may cap the number of attendees from selective schools or any individual school to ensure a diverse cohort. Apart from that, we assign places to sign-ups on a first-come-first-served basis.
Our courses are designed for students between Year 10 and Year 13. Depending on the specifics, we may offer certain courses only for GCSE students and others only for A-Level students, but some courses may run with access to the full age range.
Courses will generally run for 4 consecutive weeks.
Each class will go on for 90 minutes, with a break in the middle. This time will be spent both learning new stuff and having a go yourself, so be prepared to get stuck in!
This is completely free of charge!
